Tech Team Tutorials: Backup Tips
Feel the confidence of a solid backup plan
Get an External Backup Drive
- I'm recommend these Lacie drives:
- The LaCie 301825U d2 Quadra 500 GB for your desktop. Connects to eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0
satisfying every configuration. Plus 500GB is a respectable size.
- The LaCie 250 GB Rugged Hard Disk great for desktop or as your portable drive for laptop users.
Connects to FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB2.0. Very nice. 250GB is the lowest size
I'll go and enough room for most situations. Also looks incredibly cool.
- Both are available for purchase now at nice prices

Use backup software that you know is working
- What good is backing up if restoring a backed up file is a scary chore? Sadly the biggest
names in backup miss that point. Here's what you want:
- Mac Tiger: SuperDuper form Shirt Pocket software
is around $30 and worth every penny.
- Mac Leopard: Time Machine comes with Leopard. Set it and forget it.
- Windows 2000, XP, Vista: Check out HD Clone or Speed Clone
