Job Description: The Director, Analytics role is designed to lead the Analytics team, currently formed of Specialists, Managers and Sr. Managers in Emeryville as well as the Austin office.

The Director, Analytics is passionate about our work product and marketing technology – achieving the best possible campaign performance for our clients by combining both data science and storytelling. The ideal candidate is always looking for ways to streamline and optimize work flow and processes while also investigating ad technologies available to agencies and clients alike.

The primary focus of this job function is to keep the team on track to deliver flawless campaign execution, analysis of Just Media campaigns and by consistently empowering, mentoring and offering best-of-breed technology solutions.


Expectations / Objectives:


Team Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day execution and workloads of the Analytics team by closely working with the mid-management level
  • Partner with SVP in the development and socialization of team vision and annual goals
  • Stay close to workload and manage open headcounts and Analyst growth for Emeryville and Austin offices
  • Identify bandwidth problems and help alleviate the workload bottlenecks
  • Act as an escalation point between Analytics and cross-functional teams. Lending your expertise to help solve problems.
  • Conduct and drive weekly team meetings to share agency updates and industry knowledge
  • Facilitate training for team members where desired and needed
  • Regularly review reporting and help with Analysts observations and optimization input
  • Assist Analysts in the development and monitoring of annual individual goals-setting


Data & Analytics Skills:

  • Own the reporting standards and practices for the agency. Foster collaboration by socializing those best practices cross-functionally.
  • Drive creative thinking around how we use data, and we could use data to solve unique business challenges in both B2B and B2C environments
  • Represent the data collection, reporting and analytics practices for the agency in client presentations
  • Regularly participate in new business pitches, new client onboarding or existing client reporting presentations.
  • Work with internal Account leads to identify and execute upsell opportunities
  • Lead the scoping of reporting the need for new accounts and the onboarding of accounts. Build a relationship with a client’s technical contacts to properly onboard.
  • Develop custom, innovative measurement plans, and methodologies
  • Build and execute client-specific data strategies including performing gap assessments, creating optimal campaign data plans, and building execution roadmaps
  • Evaluate new online and offline data opportunities in the form of new sources, new technologies, client priorities, partnerships, etc.


Technology Expertise:

  • Drive technical expertise across the team and the agency to ensure that the team is constantly in growth-mode
  • Stay informed about ad tech and how this compares to our tech stack and partner lists
  • Ensure team is informed about new ad tech, oversee test and learn agenda for clients
  • Responsible for proper implementation and education of new ad tech
  • Own relationship with ad tech used (ad server, dashboard, ad verification etc.)


The ideal candidate has the following:

  • 10+ years of experience in analytics or strategy with an advertising agency, management consulting company, or ad tech company
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with modern statistical learning methods (regression techniques, classification models, supervised and unsupervised learning, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of and passion for online advertising and emerging trends in the digital landscape
