DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The American Psychological Association is seeking an exceptional multimedia strategy manager to join the organization’s new and growing in-house creative team. This person will be responsible for producing and creating visually engaging, cinematic, narrative driven multimedia content to enhance APA’s digital brand and support the association’s mission and objectives. This position requires someone with diverse range of creative communications skills who can lead projects from conception to completion.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-8 years of directly related job experience in a professional environment.
  • Superior storytelling skills, with demonstrated experience translating complex concepts into easy-to-understand, compelling narratives.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and project management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects, work efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record collaborating on projects in a team environment.
  • Ability to direct and work closely with a range of seasoned and green on camera talent.
  • Experience working in the field and filming in a variety of locations.
  • Knowledge of cinematography and post-production work flow.
  • Able to work within and elevate an established brand.
  • Very strong eye for detail and concern for quality.
  • BA in Communications, Film, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous professional communications experience with psychology, healthcare, higher education, and scientific audiences is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to APA’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The multimedia strategy manager will be responsible for producing and creating visually engaging, cinematic, narrative driven multimedia content to enhance APA’s digital brand and support the association’s mission and objectives. He or she will report to the creative director and work as part of an interdisciplinary communications team of creative, marketing, editorial, social media, and media relations staff, and as a result should be able to collaborate with others and contribute ideas. This person will work directly with program teams to help develop their multimedia strategies. She or he will also help the communications team manage, prioritize, and communicate organizational communications priorities.

  • Design and oversee the implementation of a strategy for APA’s multimedia content, ensuring it aligns with our business goals, voice, and brand.
  • Create high-quality videos that powerfully reflect a consistent APA brand, voice, and tone and that exhibit craft in all aspects of execution.
  • Help determine the right channels and multimedia strategies for different audiences and devise campaign segmentations and personas to target the right people with the right message.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and strategic partners to generate story ideas and formats and understand how the association’s goals are best met and amplified by multimedia content.
  • Produce live events through livestreams and real-time captures.
  • Propose new ideas on how to use APA’s studio to create compelling, high-production, viral videos.
  • Manage project requests, help establish timelines, and adapt schedules and projects accordingly in a fast-paced, flexible work environment with multiple organizational priorities.
  • Work to streamline APA’s editing and shooting process to create an efficient and seamless process from the beginning of a project to completion.
  • Devise testing plans and distill results into actionable insights.
  • Establish processes for and negotiate contracts with vendors and freelancers, overseeing the work and deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Must be tech savvy with aptitude and interest in learning software tools and programs.
  • Advanced experience using Adobe Creative Cloud products including Final Cut Pro, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office, digital marketing, social media, and marketing analytics tools.
